What the work is, and what to know

The work

Writing and reviewing clinical case studies and scenarios, evaluating AI-generated answers for accuracy, safety and ethics, and judging which of two responses serves a person better. It is not client care.

Read the terms

Most roles are hourly contracts with no benefits stated, where you handle your own taxes; a few are W-2 employment through a staffing company. Each card above says which, and how long a project lasts is up to the company running it.

Keep clients out of it

Scenarios and case studies draw on your experience, so write them so no client could be recognized. Nothing from a client's record belongs in this work.

Questions

AI training work for clinicians: questions, answered

Do AI companies hire therapists?
Yes. AI labs hire licensed clinicians to write clinical scenarios and case studies, evaluate what their models say about mental health, and grade conversations for realism and safety. Today micro1, Mercor and AfterQuery list 8 such roles on their own job boards.
How much do AI training jobs pay therapists?
The roles open today post $45 to $155 an hour. The rate is the one each posting states; the offer you receive sets your own.
Can counselors, social workers and marriage and family therapists apply?
Yes: 3 of the open roles are for counselors, therapists, social workers or behavioral health clinicians (AfterQuery's Licensed Clinical Social Worker Expert, AfterQuery's Licensed Professional Counselor Expert and Mercor's Behavioral Health Expert, AI Safety and Model Evaluation). The others ask for a psychologist's doctorate or a prescriber's license (psychiatrist or nurse practitioner).
Do I need AI experience?
Not for the roles we have read in full: they ask for clinical licenses, training and judgment, and micro1's postings say outright that no prior experience in AI is required.
Is it remote, and is it a job or a contract?
The roles are remote, and most are hourly contract work with no benefits stated, so taxes are yours to handle. Mercor's Behavioral Health Expert, AI Safety and Model Evaluation is W-2 employment instead, as its posting states.
OnlineTherapy.me reports what each company's own postings say on the dates shown; the contract or offer you receive is what binds you. micro1's and Mercor's roles are read from their public job feeds every six hours; AfterQuery's are read from its own pages on the date each card shows.
