Mental health benefits for a small business: what each costs
An EAP, an employer-paid therapy plan, a wellbeing app, or in-network therapy that costs the company nothing: what each vendor sells a small team, the price it publishes, and its terms, every fact linked to the vendor's own page.
Most mental health benefit vendors quote only on request, but 4 sell to small teams with a published price. Talkspace (therapy benefit), from $20 per employee a month; from $500 a month at 25 employees. Headspace (meditation and wellbeing app), $56.04 per employee a year at 10 to 49 seats (list $69.99). Calm (meditation and wellbeing app), $70 per person a year list; 25 seats $1,517.75 a year. MindFi (therapy benefit), $30 per employee platform fee, plus sessions from $35; free under 20 people. The apps are not therapy or an EAP. Rula and Two Chairs charge the employer nothing and bill employees' own insurance instead.

Mental health benefits for small businesses, answered
- What does an EAP or mental health benefit cost a small business?
- Few vendors publish a price. 4 sell to small teams with a published price. Rula and Two Chairs charge the employer nothing and bill each employee's health insurance instead. The large EAP and mental health vendors (Lyra Health, Spring Health, Modern Health and BetterHelp and others) quote only on request.
- How much does Talkspace for small business cost?
- Starting rates of $20 per employee per month, billed monthly by card. The page says you pick one of three plan types, but it does not print each plan's price or its number of live sessions. Every plan requires a minimum one-year commitment, billed monthly by card through Stripe; the plan renews each year unless cancelled.
- How much does Headspace cost for a small business?
- Priced per employee per year next to a struck-through list price of $69.99: its calculator prices 10 to 49 seats at $56.04 each, falling to $44.88 each at 800 to 999 seats (10 seats: $560.40 a year). The Headspace app (guided meditations, courses and skill-building exercises); its small-business page says clinical services and EAP are a separate package, sold through a demo.
- How much does Calm cost for a small team?
- An individual list price of $70 a year; its checkout calculator priced 25 seats at $1,517.75 a year and 50 seats at $2,847.50 on October 30, 2026. A single upfront annual payment in US dollars (no monthly billing, invoices or purchase orders); the plan auto-renews unless you switch that off, and seats cannot be reduced or refunded mid-cycle.
- Is a meditation app the same as an EAP or therapy benefit?
- No. Headspace's and Calm's small-business plans give employees a meditation and wellbeing app; Headspace's page says clinical services and EAP are a separate package. An employee assistance program gives a set number of free counseling sessions plus referral services, and a therapy benefit like Talkspace's gives employees ongoing sessions with a licensed therapist.
- Can a small business offer therapy at no cost to the company?
- Yes, if employees have health insurance: Rula and Two Chairs charge the employer no fee and bill each employee's own plan, so employees pay their usual copay or cost-share. It is not an EAP: employees without coverage, or with a high deductible, still pay.
