The Online Therapy Pricing Report
What one online therapy session costs without insurance at every service we track that publishes a price, read from each service's own pages on October 18, 2026, with subscriptions and insured copays kept separate.
Paid out of pocket, one online therapy session starts at $40 to $275 at the 22 services we track that publish a price, and the middle starting price is $155. 6 of the 22 start at $100 or less. With insurance, these services say clients pay $0 to $36 a session. Subscriptions are quoted by the week or month and are listed separately, because a plan's price buys a different amount of care.

A regular session is the lowest price a service states for an ongoing individual session at its standard length (45 minutes or more where it prices several lengths). The middle starting price is our calculation: the middle of these 22 figures, one per service, not weighted by how many people each service sees. Psychiatry, couples and group sessions are not included here; their prices are in the full price catalogue.

How the figures were gathered
We track 68 online therapy and psychiatry services and 169 plan or access-path records. Every price was read against the service's own pricing, FAQ or help-center pages on the date shown; a figure that only a review site states is not used in this report. The tables include every service whose own pages state the figure, so it is a census of the services we track, not a random sample of the market and not weighted by patient numbers.
Session prices measure one thing: the self-pay price of one regular individual therapy session. Where a service states a range, the low end ranks it and the range is shown; where it charges more for a first session or evaluation, that price is shown beside it. Services that publish no price of their own, such as insurance marketplaces whose providers set their rates and employer benefits, are not ranked.
We preserve ranges, average labels and quoted periods. Multiplying a weekly rate by four describes four weeks, not a calendar month. We never pool subscriptions, insured copays, group support or medication programs into a single therapy price.
Before booking, ask the provider for your total due now, renewal amount, billing interval, included session count and cancellation terms. If using insurance, confirm the specific clinician is in-network and ask how your deductible, coinsurance and any additional fees affect the estimate. The whole catalogue was last checked October 18, 2026.
Methodology correction: September 23, 2026
We withdrew an earlier subscription median, pooled copay and market-wide insurance percentage. The inputs mixed different care types and billing periods, and the absence of an insurance-tagged record was incorrectly treated as proof of cash-only access. The only summary figure this report now gives measures one kind of price: a self-pay session.
Online therapy cost, answered
How much does an online therapy session cost without insurance?
At the 22 online therapy services we track that publish a self-pay price for one session, a regular session starts at $40 (Open Path Psychotherapy Collective) to $275 (Nema Health). The middle starting price is $155, and 6 of the 22 start at $100 or less. Session lengths differ, and several services charge more for the first session; the table shows both.
Is a weekly price the same as a monthly bill?
No. A weekly advertised rate, a four-week billing cycle and a calendar-month charge are different units. BetterHelp bills every four weeks, which is 13 charges in a year rather than 12, while Talkspace and Calmerry quote weekly prices and say they bill monthly. We keep each service's quoted unit instead of converting it.
What will I pay with insurance?
The services that publish a figure say insured clients pay $0 to $36 a session, usually as an average across their members. An average describes a service's insured members, not your personal cost. Your plan, deductible, coinsurance, state and clinician can change it, so check your coverage before booking.
Which services are included?
Every service among the 68 we track whose own pages state the figure: 22 state a self-pay price for one therapy session, 6 a self-pay subscription and 13 what insured clients pay. Services that publish no price, such as insurance-only marketplaces whose providers set their own rates and employer benefits, are not ranked. It is not a survey of the whole market, and no figure is weighted by patient numbers.
