Is Grouport legit?
Grouport is a real, operating service run by Grouport Inc., founded in 2019. Its terms say Grouport works only with independent, licensed professional providers, who are not its employees; its FAQ lists psychologists, clinical social workers, mental health counselors and marriage and family therapists. We found no FTC case, Justice Department press release or state attorney general action naming it (searched Nov 4, 2026).

Telehealth prescribing of controlled meds runs on temporary rules
The COVID-era flexibility that lets clinicians prescribe Schedule II-V controlled substances, such as ADHD stimulants, via telehealth without a prior in-person visit is temporary, not permanent. The DEA's fourth extension keeps it in effect through December 31, 2026. If the DEA does not issue a permanent rule or a further extension before then, online access to these medications could change. Buprenorphine for opioid use disorder also has a permanent rule, in effect since December 31, 2025, that allows a first six months by telemedicine. Confirm current availability with the provider.

Privacy: mental-health apps have leaked sensitive data to advertisers
Federal enforcement has repeatedly targeted how online mental-health services shared sensitive data with advertisers, including via tracking pixels (BetterHelp, Cerebral, GoodRx, and Monument). HIPAA does not cover every app. Review each provider's current privacy policy and be cautious about what you share, since not all platforms handle personal health information the same way.

Evidence & outcomes
What the research shows for this service and for the therapy approaches it uses.
Grouport has not published its own outcome study. For online therapy, effectiveness depends most on the therapy approach used and your fit with the therapist.
Video teletherapy is broadly as effective as in-person care for common conditions. See the evidence by approach (CBT, DBT, EMDR, and more).
