Talkspace vs BetterHelp for therapists: what is the difference?
Talkspace offers contract work on its platform and some employee roles; BetterHelp contracts you to treat the clients it sends you on its platform. Both are free to join. Talkspace prints pay from $90.00 per session in its own pages; BetterHelp prints pay from $43 to $70 per hour in its own job postings. Talkspace credentials you with insurers; BetterHelp bills under its own insurer contracts, so you do not panel with insurers yourself. Neither provides malpractice insurance: you carry your own policy with either.
Who pays more, Talkspace or BetterHelp?
Talkspace: Talkspace prints per-session rates for independently licensed 1099 therapists by the client's state of residence: Zone 1 (CA) $90.00, Zone 2 (DC, MA, MD, NY, VA, WA) $78.00 and Zone 3 (all other states) $70.00 for a 60-minute live session, prorated for 30- and 45-minute sessions. BetterHelp: BetterHelp's own job postings print hourly ranges for live sessions that differ by posting and state: $43 to $59, $43 to $70, and $55 to $70 per hour, and one posting prints an annual range of $52,000 to $81,900 for 25 to 35 hours a week.
Is Talkspace or BetterHelp cheaper for therapists?
Talkspace: Talkspace says it is free to join and use as a provider, with no joining fees. BetterHelp: BetterHelp's job postings say it collects no fees from the therapist. The contractor terms add that the contractor bears their own overhead and out-of-pocket expenses and supplies their own equipment.
How does credentialing work at Talkspace and BetterHelp?
Talkspace: Talkspace says it works directly with insurance carriers to manage credentialing, claim submission and billing, and therapists complete a CAQH profile during onboarding. Clinicians receive Talkspace's standard reimbursement rates whatever the client's insurance status. Talkspace states no credentialing timeline for therapists (its prescriber page says 1 to 2 weeks). BetterHelp: BetterHelp's contracting group holds the payor contracts and may enroll the clinician with insurers on their behalf, so the clinician does not panel with insurers individually. One posting says 'No insurance paneling and zero fees'.
How often do Talkspace and BetterHelp pay therapists?
Talkspace: 1099 providers are paid semi-monthly by direct deposit: services from the 1st to the 15th are paid on the 25th of that month, and services from the 16th to month end are paid on the 10th of the following month. BetterHelp: Compensation is paid weekly.
Are Talkspace and BetterHelp therapists contractors or employees?
Talkspace: The majority of Talkspace's clinical network is 1099 contractors, who receive tax documents and stay responsible for their own taxes. BetterHelp: BetterHelp's US terms state that all contractors under them are independent contractors, not employees, and that the group issues 1099 forms where applicable.
Do Talkspace or BetterHelp provide malpractice insurance?
Talkspace: Therapists must carry their own individual malpractice insurance (the prescriber page asks PMHNPs for at least $1 million occurrence and $3 million aggregate). BetterHelp: The clinician must carry their own professional liability insurance, and the terms require certificates of insurance within three days of a demand.
Can pre-licensed or associate clinicians join Talkspace or BetterHelp?
Talkspace accepts pre-licensed or associate clinicians. BetterHelp does not accept pre-licensed or associate clinicians.
Can you see clients in person through Talkspace or BetterHelp?
Talkspace: All therapy is delivered through the Talkspace web and iOS platform, so it is telehealth only. BetterHelp: Services are rendered remotely, and the application page's comparison table answers 'No' to seeing clients in person through BetterHelp.
